Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) is a regulatory requirement for offshore operations in Europe. It is most likely a minimum contractual requirement elsewhere, especially where the oil industry is concerned. This system is part of the baseline standard on some helicopter types. HUMS comprises much more than the airborne part of the system. There are ground stations, business and computer infrastructure, links to the OEM, and the operator must have a system for data interpretation and maintenance support.
